Background

When a renewable energy developer assesses the feasibility of a site, a major factor is how much output or yield is expected, as compared to the cost to develop the land and maintain the facility over its operation.

Typically, this preliminary estimate is based solely on topography ("buildability"), and more detailed estimates are unknown until the later engineering phase. This delay introduces risk to projects.

Solution

A simple form with pre-filled flexible inputs enabling RE developers to produce a stronger estimate, without additional training.

Determine how much energy a solar farm on this site is likely to produce.

Motivation

Project risk reduction: validation for financing, permitting, building, and operating.

Users

Renewable energy developers: land agents and GIS analysts.

Goal

Pain points

  • buildability-based estimates are very rough

  • waiting until the engineering phase to estimate yield is potentially expensive

  • RE developers don't have the knowledge
    to do engineering-level estimation
