Overview
This project was an initiative to address critical business and user experience challenges in in the renewables and energy grid site selection process including a fragmented and inefficient workflow.
Outcome
A guided experience through a comprehensive unified search with summarized and prioritized results that is customizable to company strategy.
Streamline locating viable development sites based on client’s specific criteria.
Goal
Users
Renewable energy developers: land agents and GIS analysts.
With many technical options, users are unsure where to begin
Fragmented data requires multiple steps and manual alignment
Land developers lack relevant contextual information for quick decision making
Pain points
organically built information architecture became very complex
many slightly different options to choose from
unclear workflow for customer’s specific case
My Process
Tools: Figma, Miro, Dovetail, Mixpanel, GSuite
Discovery
Ideation workshops with design and product
Survey and card sort exercises with go-to-market teams
Benchmarking existing user flow
Evaluative
Early wireframe sketch critiques
Initial mock-up flow feedback
Prototype, interactive user concept testing, comparative evaluation
Methods: stakeholder workshops, user interviews, concept testing, usability testing, card sort, and click count
Results
A click-count comparison of the new prototype with the benchmark original flow showed:
80% reduction in necessary user interactions, and
95% reduction when templates are used
We delivered:
A full functional prototype of the future vision for a unified site selection search
A prioritized backlog for how to implement the improved workflow
